The 2025 Gas Gas MC 85 is one of those bikes that just makes sense the moment you throw a leg over it. It sits low, feels planted, and the moment you crack the throttle, that two-stroke powerband hits with a snap that'll put a grin on your face every single time. Gas Gas has been building on the KTM platform for a few years now, and the MC 85 is proof that they've dialed it in.
RIDE IMPRESSIONS
1First Impressions
Rolling the MC 85 out of the truck, the first thing you notice is how clean it looks. The red plastics are sharp, the graphics are minimal and modern, and the bike just looks purposeful. It doesn't scream "entry level" — it looks like a race bike, because it is one. The WP XACT forks up front catch your eye immediately, and the overall fit and finish is genuinely impressive for the price point.
2The Powerband
Fire it up and the MC 85 settles into a crisp, snappy idle. On the track, the two-stroke powerband is exactly what you want — it builds smoothly through the low end, then absolutely rips when you hit the meat of the power. It's not a violent hit like some 85s can be, but it's definitely not soft either. The power delivery rewards riders who stay on the pipe and keep the revs up. Short-shifting this thing is a crime.
3Handling & Chassis
This is where the MC 85 really shines. The chromoly steel frame is stiff where it needs to be and compliant everywhere else. Corner entry is confidence-inspiring — you can really lean on the front end and trust it. The bike tracks straight under braking and doesn't get squirrely mid-corner. The WP XACT suspension is well-balanced out of the box, though heavier or more aggressive riders will want to dial in the clickers to their preference.
4Suspension
The WP XACT USD fork and rear monoshock are the same units found on the KTM SX 85, and they're genuinely excellent for this class. Stock settings are plush enough for rough tracks but firm enough to handle big jumps without bottoming out. The fork in particular has a great feel — you can sense exactly what the front wheel is doing, which builds confidence fast. If you're racing competitively, a professional revalve will unlock even more performance.
5Brakes
Hydraulic discs front and rear — no complaints here. The front brake has strong initial bite and good modulation. The rear is easy to control and doesn't lock up unexpectedly. For an 85cc class bike, the braking package is top tier.

FINAL VERDICT
RODDY'S TAKE
The 2025 Gas Gas MC 85 is a serious race bike that doesn't apologize for it. The WP suspension, snappy powerband, and razor-sharp chassis make it one of the best 85cc bikes on the market right now. If you're ready to put in the laps and learn the bike, it will reward you massively. This isn't a bike you grow into — it's a bike that makes you grow.
